About us
St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church is a confessional Lutheran congregation, that is, her pastor subscribes to the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. This subscription makes us both catholic and evangelical. We are catholic in the broad sense of the word as it is confessed in the Nicene Creed: "one holy catholic and apostolic church." The word "catholic" in the original versions of the three ecumenical creeds (see below) is used to describe the entire church or the Christian faith. In this context, to call oneself "catholic" is to confess the fullness of the Christian faith without alteration.
We are also evangelical, which is to say we are Gospel focused. We hold that Jesus Christ crucified and raised again for the forgiveness of our sins is the very center and core of who we are. Our Lord comes to us to forgive our sins and give us himself through the Word of God, preaching, Holy Baptism, Holy Absolution (forgiveness), and the Holy Communion.
We are a congregation of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Below you will find various readings regarding our faith. Feel free to use them. But you are also invited to call or e-mail our pastor with any questions you might have.
The Book of Concord of 1580 contains the three ecumenical creeds wherein the one, catholic (universal Christian) and apostolic faith is confessed:
The same faith is confessed in other documents in the Book of Concord, including the following:
